Jack recognises any Core Audio interface, and has a simple workaround for use with the internal Mac soundcard. Jack is a separate, free application that enables simple to complex routing of audio inside your Mac. To get started in Mixbus, you first need to set up Jack Pilot. With that kind of credibility, you have to take notice when they claim to have created a virtual mixer based on their 32‑series and MR‑series consoles, especially when it's being offered at an introductory price of $79. In case the name Harrison is not familiar, to you, they are best known for the top‑end, large‑format consoles used to mix all your favourite films, as well as a little collection of toe‑tappers called Michael Jackson's Thriller. Many of the features described in this review are, of course, common to Ardour and Mixbus, but for the sake of simplicity I'll refer to Mixbus throughout. Mixbus itself is thus not open‑source, as the mixer uses proprietary code developed by Harrison Consoles. Broadly speaking, it combines the existing Ardour recording and mixing functionality with a custom mixer. Mixbus is a customised Mac OS X version of the open‑source program Ardour (which, unlike Mixbus, is also available for the Linux platform). |t was with this notion in mind that the makers of Mixbus set out to create a new DAW that, while not reinventing the wheel, improves in areas where others fall short and offers something no other DAW can boast: a million‑dollar mixer. Just about every music production professional, amateur and even dilettante is already committed to one of the current crop of major digital audio workstations, and so fully entrenched in its eccentricities that switching to another is probably not a viable consideration. ![]() ![]() Note the red gain‑reduction meters of the compressor.ĭoes the pro audio market need another digital audio workstation program? ![]() There’s currently just one campaign live on Gamefound - Lucky Duck Games’ Kingdom Rush: Elemental Uprising, which is based on the tower defense video game series. Image: Modiphius Entertainment/Bethesda Softworks Just 5% of the funds raised will go to Gamefound, while 3% of funds raised will go to the payment processor. While more features will be available on his platform, Świerkot said that Gamefound will nonetheless be matching Kickstarter’s current fee structure. While influencers and tabletop gaming personalities will be heavily integrated into the platform, the goal is for content to be clearly marked when it has been paid for by a developer or publisher, said Świerkot. In addition, Świerkot told Polygon that his company is dedicated to transparency. The platform already boasts a robust comments system with threaded conversations and hashtags. And there are handy links to the recommended pledge level and a campaign’s next stretch goal.Ĭommunity features are also a priority, Świerkot said. Gamefound originally launched with a similar feature set some time ago, so those features are already available on the platform.Īdditionally, Gamefound includes key information - like the timeline of campaigns, and details on their current funding levels - right at the top of the page. That can create confusion with consumers, and errors when games are finally shipped. That means customers should never have to leave Gamefound to manage their purchases, either during or after a campaign.Ĭurrently, many tabletop creators utilize other platforms like BackerKit, which allow them to continue taking new orders and adjusting old ones even after a campaign ends. Stretch goals and add-ons - items like expansions and upgrades that commonly accompany modern tabletop games - are deeply integrated into the platform. Świerkot says that Gamefound was designed with tabletop creators, and their fans, in mind. ![]() I guess we as board gamers like to make things complex for ourselves.” “They are certainly the most innovative in terms of rewards the most complex for sure. “I think that the board games are the ones pushing the boundaries to the limits of what is possible ,” Świerkot said. But Świerkot says the platform has been slow to adapt to the needs of its most profitable customers. Along with the much smaller category of video games, tabletop games account for roughly one-third of Kickstarter’s total annual revenue. The category has grown exponentially on Kickstarter since that platform was founded in 2009, including a 32% spike last year. ![]() Speaking with Polygon on Wednesday, Świerkot said it was high time for a Kickstarter competitor to enter the space.Ĭrowdfunding has lit a fire under the entire tabletop industry, fueling a renaissance among small and large creators alike. The campaign for ISS Vanguard, a miniatures-heavy science fiction board game, earned nearly $5 million. The brainchild of Marcin Świerkot, founder and CEO of Awaken Realms, Gamefound hosted its first crowdfunding project in 2020. Polygon has the exclusive reveal, plus new details on the platform itself. That includes a refined collector’s edition of the award-winning Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island and much more. Created by board game developer Awaken Realms ( Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon), Gamefound is announcing an ambitious slate of campaigns scheduled for 2021. Instead, the project will launch on Gamefound, an ambitious new crowdfunding platform custom-built for tabletop games. But it’s not coming to Kickstarter, the go-to crowdfunding site for new tabletop games. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim The Board Game is on the way from Modiphius Games, publisher of the popular Fallout- and The Elder Scrolls-themed miniatures games. In order to support asynchronous collaboration with a Git-like branching and merging workflow, one key problem we need to solve is: how can we take any two versions of a document, which have been edited independently, and merge them in a way that preserves the intentions behind the different users’ edits as much as possible? The collaboration algorithm used by Google Docs ( Operational Transformation) assumes that a document has a single, linear timeline of edits, which is managed by a cloud service. Asynchronous collaboration requires a Git-like model where multiple versions (branches) of a document can exist side-by-side, and those versions can be merged when the users are ready to do so. In Google Docs, the updates to a document form a single linear timeline every change is immediately merged. However, the manual merge conflict resolution required by Git is not user-friendly, especially for a complex file format such as rich text (i.e. Many software developers are familiar with asynchronous workflows in the form of Git branches and pull requests. if the user changed their mind about a set of edits). Several such copies may exist side-by-side, and some might never be merged (e.g. With asynchronous collaboration, this is possible: a user may work in isolation on their own copy of a document for a while, without seeing other users’ real-time updates sometime later, when they are ready to share their work, they can choose to merge it with their collaborators’ edits. When doing creative work, they preferred to have space to ideate and experiment in private, sharing their progress only when they are ready to do so. We interviewed eight people who regularly collaborate professionally on documents such as news articles, and several told us that they found real-time collaboration a stressful experience: they felt performative, self-conscious of others witnessing their messy work-in-progress, or irritated when a collaborator acted on suggestions before the editing pass was complete. ![]() While this can be very convenient, such real-time (or synchronous) collaboration is not always what users want. In a real-time collaborative editor such as Google Docs, every keystroke typed into a document is immediately visible to the other collaborators. We then explain how Peritext handles these issues, and demonstrate our prototype implementation of the algorithm. ![]() We provide a detailed analysis of various edge cases that need to be handled in collaborative rich-text editors, and explain why existing algorithms for plain text collaboration are not able to handle them correctly. Once the versions are merged, the algorithm guarantees that all users converge towards the same merged result. In this article we present Peritext, an algorithm for rich-text collaboration that provides greater flexibility: it allows users to edit independent copies of a document, and it provides a mechanism for automatically merging those versions back together in a way that preserves the users’ intent as much as possible. The algorithms underpinning services like Google Docs are not designed to support this use case. However, sometimes people prefer a more asynchronous collaboration style, where they can work on a private copy of a document for a while and share their updates later. Then you have a complete way of knowing what part of the model you are working on and the Smart material attached to it. You can name layers in a way that you know which part of the model they were applied to. Detach a Smart Material using the same method or right-click on the layer itself for the option to detach. The above is a good way of testing Smart Materials and editing them. Of course, this would require more layers, but it is one way of keeping track of your Smart Materials after they are applied and if they need editing. You can not manually paint on a layer with an attached material. You can not reapply a Smart Material in the viewport manually using this method, but you can detach and re-attach the Smart material if you need to reapply it. Once a Smart Material has been attached to the layer, you can edit it with the Smart Material editor, and it will auto-update on the mesh after you save your edited Smart Material. There is no name given, but the preview is fairly large. Hover your mouse over the icon in the layer, and a larger preview will appear. You can only attach one Shader per layer. In contrast to Photoshop CC the base images are no represented as seperate layers with a mask Affinity Photo only gives out the result in one single layer. The results range from good to usable, but remember that Photoshop CC had problems with this stacks. Some programs even Photoshop CC run into problems recognizing a focus layer and then the whole stack would not work out like in this example.Įven though it’s not quite fair to compare the stack function from Affinity with specialized programms (which costs a lot more than Affinity Photo) the resulting image was a surpise too: ![]() After this step the base images are merged to the final stack. To allow a comparism i used the same stack used in the above blog posts consisting of 15 images.įirst of all you have to select the images and after reading the base images these are aligned. Generally i’m a fan of specialized programs like Zerene Stacker or Helicon Focus to do a focus stack, but just like Photoshop CC Affinity Photo has a stacking function on board. The resulting image is equivalent to Photoshop CC: The image is devided into 3 areas, a sharp center area, 2 areas on bottom and top of the sharp center werre you get the effect and 2 outer areas completely unsharp. And again handling and functionality is equal. ![]() The result of this filter can be seen here:Īffinity Photo also has a Tilt/Shift filter just like the competitor Photoshop CC. Handling and functionality are almost the same, the filter can be restricted to lets say the cloud area and you can define the angle of motion. Just like the big example Photoshop CC Affinity Photo implements a filter to add motion blur to the image or parts of it. With Photoshop CC a new layer is created with the results of the filter, while in Affinity Photo the results of the filter are applied to the currently selected layer. There is a little difference in handling between Photoshop CC and Affinity Photo. The older beta version mentioned Analog Efex and Color Efex only as executable, while the last beta version the complete set is executable.
